Informal vs. Formal-9/16

One time I went to a parent teachers conference and I had sweatpants on and a graphic t-shirt with satan playing with cats on it. While my parents were talkng to the teacher, I interrupted and said, “I like your sneakers”. I think I may have cross the bounday and was too Informal.
